SCHOONY
I want my work to have made a difference in the world even if it’s simply starting up a conversation on the issues, or at least, opening people’s eyes to many of the issues that are happening in the world.
Schoony is a London-based sculptural artist pushing the boundaries of 3D technology in contemporary art. His work incorporates 3D scanning, digital modeling, and 3D printing, bringing his visions to life both physically and digitally. Through his sculptures, Schoony explores themes of commercialism, anti-violence, and the Western world’s detachment from warfare, using his art as a means of social commentary.

Schoony’s journey into art began at an early age, heavily influenced by his father, who worked in special effects for film. Growing up, he and his brother would often visit film sets, mesmerized by the magic of movie-making. By the age of 15, Schoony was working alongside his father in the special effects prosthetics and specialty props departments, gaining hands-on experience that would shape his artistic career.
His work in the film industry took him across the globe, contributing to major productions such as Harry Potter, Star Wars, Black Hawk Down, and Rambo. The skills he honed in prosthetics and visual effects would later become integral to his sculptural practice, blending technical precision with artistic vision.
Art as a Reflection of Society
Schoony draws inspiration from real-life issues, using his platform to address topics that often go unspoken. His work delves into themes such as domestic abuse (Bruiser), the impact of war (Boy Soldier), and love and beauty (Butterfly Kiss).
For example, Bruiser (Boxing Girl) highlights female empowerment and resilience, while Boy Soldier confronts the injustice of sending young children to war. Through these powerful pieces, Schoony creates sculptures that are not only visually striking but also deeply thought-provoking.
Bruiser (Boxing Girl)
Modeled after his daughter, Bruiser is a symbol of strength and defiance. As she grew up, Schoony became more aware of the challenges women face worldwide. The sculpture portrays a young girl wearing boxing gloves, ready to stand her ground, embodying the resilience needed to navigate the world.
Boy Soldier
One of Schoony’s most recognized works, Boy Soldier, was created from the perspective of mothers watching their children go off to war. Inspired by this idea, he used a life cast of his nephew Kai, representing a child being sent into battle—an image that resonates deeply with audiences. The sculpture speaks to the universal fear of losing innocence to war, making it one of his most emotionally impactful works.
Influences & Inspirations
One of Schoony’s biggest artistic influences is James Jean, an artist whose creativity never fails to inspire him. He admires Jean’s ability to push artistic boundaries and frequently returns to his early works for inspiration.
