Banksy’s Peckham Rock is a cheeky and conceptual piece that originated as a street art prank. Initially, it was a rock-shaped slab of concrete with an image depicting a supposed prehistoric figure pushing a shopping trolley. In 2005, Banksy stealthily installed the piece in The British Museum, complete with an official-looking information label. Remarkably, it remained unnoticed for three days before being identified as an imposter, cementing its place in art history as one of the most audacious art interventions.
This wooden replica, created in 2018 with the permission of Pest Control, retains the playful commentary of the original. The reverse side includes a copy of the original information label text, making it both a collectible and a humorous nod to the original event. Released by The British Museum, this framed wooden postcard-sized artwork measures 12 × 18 × 3 cm and stands as an official piece of Banksy-certified work. It showcases Banksy’s flair for blending art, humor, and social critique.
